Governance and Public Policies
As institutional arrangements that shape the way policies are formulated, implemented and evaluated for the greatest benefit of society, public governance is fundamental in guiding how decisions about the use and management of natural resources, involving governments, companies and civil society, should be made. Thus, the area in question seeks to contemplate studies that address governance and the elaboration of public policies at the federal, state and municipal levels and aimed at mitigating environmental impacts. From this perspective, it covers topics involving the participation of civil society and social actors; environmental agenda; solid waste management; implementation and evaluation of public policies in different dimensions of sustainability (political, social, environmental, economic and cultural); management of environmental conflicts; smart cities; ecotourism; and protection of ecosystems.
Economy and Sustainable Development
Promoting sustainable economic and social development, and in this context, promoting social justice and reducing inequalities, is the greatest challenge facing nations today. Thinking about these issues and proposing solutions to common problems resulting from the development of countries has been one of the main purposes of academia. Based on this, we encourage the development of research that links sustainability and economic growth/development, including studies on sustainable finance, social impact businesses, circular economy, transition to a sustainable economy, SDGs, conscious consumption, sustainable production and food security, modernization and its environmental risks.
Technology and Artificial Intelligence Applied to the Environment
The same technological and scientific progress that has enabled the industrialization and modernization of countries is often pointed out as one of the main causes of environmental problems today. However, it is also through technological progress that the main proposals for achieving a green transition have been consolidated. Thinking from these perspectives, this thematic area opens up opportunities for research on environmental monitoring and preservation; remote sensing; satellites and artificial intelligence systems to monitor environmental conservation areas; low-carbon technologies; clean production technologies; waste management and recycling; ecodesign and the like.
Diplomacy and Environment
As environmental issues become transboundary problems, influencing international relations and balances of power, including the dispute over natural resources and long-term security and stability, themes such as energy geopolitics; global climate governance; diplomacy and its derivatives; sovereignty and the environment; transboundary environmental conflicts; International Environmental Order; disputes over natural resources; Multilateral Environmental Agreements (MEAs), and aerospace geopolitics stand out.
Agriculture and Rural Development
The search for a balance between agricultural production and environmental protection, social justice, economic viability and food security in countries should be a central point in discussions on agricultural practices and rural development. With this in mind, the thematic area includes studies developed from the perspectives of mechanization and agricultural technologies for more sustainable management, socio-environmental development in rural areas, food security, reduction of the impacts of agricultural production, agrarian reform, territorial management, organic and biodynamic production, efficient use of resources, integrated pest management, biodiversity conservation and promotion of quality of life in rural areas.
Environmental and Climate Law
Protecting and preserving the environment are major challenges for countries, as is formulating legal instruments that provide the means to ensure a healthy, sustainable environment and a future with quality of life. Based on this challenge, we accept papers that address environmental civil liability, collective actions, animal rights, natural law, and the relationship between law and sustainability.
Environmental Philosophy
Understanding the ethical, moral and epistemological aspects of the relationship between man and nature in the most diverse cultures and philosophies is a fundamental part of reflecting on man's responsibility for the environment. To this end, this thematic area is interested in studies on environmental philosophy and environmentalism in Eastern and Western nations in their most varied approaches and thoughts, encompassing themes such as environmental justice, animal liberation, environmental ethics, among others.
Environmental History
Rather than treating nature as a passive setting, Environmental History considers the environment as a fundamental actor in history, which shapes human societies and is, in turn, shaped by them. As a field of study, it analyzes the interaction between human beings and the environment over time, contributing to the understanding of how these relationships develop and influence environmental impacts. In this sense, the thematic area encompasses multidisciplinary studies on issues involving the origin of environmentalism in Western and Eastern nations; climate change; history of environmental perception; landscape and environment; human-nature relationship; and related topics.
Health and Environment
Human health and well-being depend on a healthy environment. This thematic area aims to discuss how the climate emergency interrelates with health and well-being; sustainability and disease prevention; basic sanitation; environmental health; Health Services Waste Management Plan (HSPMP); solid waste management and community health, among other related topics.
Environmental Education
Environmental Education is above all a political act, since it aims to do much more than transmit knowledge about caring for the environment, but above all, to educate citizens with critical awareness and who are engaged in the defense of nature and in participating in the construction of a more sustainable future. To this end, we encourage research on understanding environmental problems; awareness and sensitization; challenges for environmental education.
Social Inequalities and Climate Emergency
With a direct impact on the worsening of social inequalities, the climate crisis disproportionately affects more vulnerable populations. The thematic area aims to foster in-depth discussions on climate justice, contributing to greater reflection on issues that address tackling inequalities in the climate emergency; just transition and climate objectives; protection of the most vulnerable; food insecurity; historical responsibilities; causes of inequalities and the climate crisis; and unequal impacts.
